News From the “No Duh” File: Christopher Nolan announces he will direct third and final Batman film

Returning to the Batcave (finally!)

Did we need an official word from director Christopher Nolan that he will return to direct his third and last Batman film? No, but we “officially” got it today, as Nolan told Empire Magazine that he will be returning to wrap up the already legendary trilogy he started with Batman Begins, and continued with The Dark Knight. Still no word on the villain, or if a script is even locked down, but maybe we should just be happy that the Inception maestro is back to thinking Bat-thoughts.

The surprising news, however, is that Nolan is tagged as producer for a new Superman movie, developing a story with Batman Begins writer David S. Goyer, with rumors circulating that Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), Matt Reeves (Let Me In), Tony Scott (Enemy of the State) and Zack Snyder (Watchmen) possibly being considered to helm. With Aronofsky long rumored to head the Batman franchise (before Nolan won the job), one gets to thinking what would happen if the two actually did team up on a superhero movie. But would a dark and gritty Superman movie work? One hand doesn’t fit all gloves. We’ll watch this one develop with bated breath. Stay tuned….
