First Look: Scream 4

19 Oct

After being told the franchise was finally over, a decade later, Sidney Prescott spends her days writing about the terrible past she’s lived, and is once again visited by the ghostface killer:

The ghostface killer is back to crunk up Woodsboro

The trailer for the fourth installment of the Scream series premiered during Spike TV’s ‘Scream Awards’ to rousing crowd approval, and this is the best footage we could get.
[**UPDATE: Yahoo has premiered the official trailer here]

While not much can be gleaned from the hastily put together trailer (principal shooting ended less than a month ago), we do know Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette reprise their roles in the series.  Also cast in the movie are Adam Brody, Hayden Panettiere, Alison Brie, Rory Culkin, Kristen Bell, Anna Paquin and ‘Friday Night Lights’ star Aimee Teegarden.  This is quite a mix of people, some who have lost a little gas, and others who are currently making names for themselves.  I would guess the fanboys will be most excited about Panettiere (‘Heroes’), Bell (‘Heroes’, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Brie (‘Community’).

Two other returns give promise to the franchise, and a sign that they may not be pushing their luck.  Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street,The People Under the Stairs, My Soul to Take) and writer Kevin Williamson (Scream, Scream 2, ‘Dawson’s Creek’) take back the reins in what could prove be an adequate sequel.  However, the only thing scarier than the pop-up scares that will be plentiful is that Scre4m may prove to be the beginning of another three films…which opens the Hellmouth for more Scary Movies.
