Mel Gibson’s ‘Hangover’ Over: Liam Neeson set to replace troubled star in cameo role

22 Oct

Not two days have passed since we reported that Mel Gibson would be making his big comeback with a cameo appearance in the upcoming Hangover 2. Now we’re getting reports that’s no longer the case, and Liam Neeson is now slated to fill the role as a Bangkok tattoo artist that might just be a little off. ComingSoon.net dropped the news that Gibson was out and Neeson would be taking over after getting a call from Bradley Cooper, his costar in this summer’s The A-Team. Director Todd Phillips confirmed the news in a statement saying he wanted Mel, but after complaints from the cast and crew, decided it best to go with someone else.

“I thought Mel would have been great in the movie….But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew.”

We were very much looking forward to seeing Gibson back at it again in a comedic role, which would have been the only acceptable route to polishing his tarnished image. But alas, you can’t spend years as a drunken anti-Semite, rose garden burying psychopath, and think that people are just going to be okay working with you again. Not to say that we don’t think Neeson can pull off the role, but we were really hoping to see “Mad Max” again. However, it appears that Gibson’s personal ‘hangover’ will be lasting for a little while longer.
